It’s been a week since Conan O’Brien’s final ‘Tonight Show’ aired (January 22, 2010) and I’m still upset. I’ve been trying to find time to sit down and blog about it, but it’s been a busy week!
I’ve been a Conan fan all of my life – when I was younger, my sister and I would stay up into the wee hours of the night to watch him and Andy. I can’t even express how excited I was to hear that he would be the new host of ‘The Tonight Show,’ and that Andy would be back as his partner in crime.
I’m very much an early bird, though, because of work, and I was thrilled to see that Hulu would have up-to-date episodes every day. I can’t even express my giddiness watching the opening of his first episode to “Surrender” in which he ran from NYC to California. I watched every episode of his ‘Tonight Show,’ often letting the episodes stack up for a week or two so I could have my Conan Marathons while working at my desk. He and Andy brought such life to the show; it wasn’t just a regular late night talk show, they got the audience involved and created such a wonderful energy, every episode was a unique viewing experience.
I didn’t watch his finale live, I waited until the next day to watch it on Hulu, as I had with every episode. The emotion behind his words was so powerful, and between that and when Tom Hanks (who coined his Coco nickname) told him that he would always be the true host of ‘The Tonight Show’ in his house, I just lost it. What a sad way for him to lose such a great thing, all because Jay Leno is a failure and a cry baby.
I’ve never cared for Jay Leno, I can’t stand his smugness, and now I downright hate him. I can’t stand to hear him cry all over anyone who will listen to him about how bad he feels – if he truly felt bad, he wouldn’t have started this mess to begin with, and when it became an issue, he would have left Conan where he was.
NBC has been on my shit-list for a while now, too, ever since they started ruining their programming by canceling ‘Scrubs.’ They don’t know a good thing when they have it, and I hope that another network benefits from Conan’s greatness, like ABC did when they picked up ‘Scrubs’ and gave them the opportunity to end the show correctly, on their terms. It’s so sad that they didn’t respond to the fan outbursts all over the nation – no one would do that for Leno.
I very much enjoyed an image I found on the web created by Mitch Canter and posted on Twitter with the comment, “I just finished designing NBC’s new logo. I call it the #failcock #conan #nbcfail.” (Source) Well said, Mitch.

Under the cut are a few additional images that I enjoyed during this whole horrible fiasco. Read the rest of this entry »
